Chase Your Purpose

One of the biggest things you could ever ask yourself in life is, what is your “why” in doing what you do in life? Pretty loaded question and a lot of things come to mind when thinking of it.

It can also be so many things all wrapped up together. It’s so important to find your “why” in doing what you do because when you know that, then you can endure anything that comes with what you do. And as the great Nipsey Hussle said, you will feel everyone emotion in chasing and doing what you really want to do in life.

Knowing your “why” will help you navigate those emotions and get through those things. I play the game of basketball because I love the game. I love the truest essence of the game and what it brings to the world. I am a faith driven guy and so I do truly believe that God gave me some talents in basketball to help serve the world and to teach me a lot about life. One of my biggest motivations and “why’s” is continuing to chase that purpose of serving people through the game of basketball. I am heading into year 10 as a professional and I am continually asking myself how can I get better and what can I improve on to make myself the best player I can be and how do I attack that. It is a must to keep this mindset because the game continues to grow and evolve and it challenges every person to level their game up. It’s a beauty. I also pray and ask how can I continue to serve in the game of basketball.

There are so many ways and some of the biggest are doing whatever it takes to win (being an example of that everyday, putting in the time and work to win each day), bringing value to the group (starts from the top and establishing culture, want to bring a winning aura to the game and team. Gotta ask yourself how to do that), and building relationships (this is huge because connecting with other players allow you to help better yourself in many ways. And the game requires the best team to come together in anyway. Building great relationships equates to winning). Family is always a big motivation because as a father, husband, and leader of the household you want to provide for them, you want to be that example as well of chasing a dream and going after it with everything and establishing those values of hard-work, persistence through tough things, and enjoying the process of the journey.

As I continue to go forward I can truly say the reward is the journey and the motivation to keep going is chasing my purpose, my family, and serving people. It challenges me everyday and I truly love it and the journey. I really hope people out there are chasing their purposes in life as well and that we all continue to find a way to serve each other. When we do that then the world truly becomes a better place.
